The Discovery Rangers program (Third, fourth, and fifth grade), features an exciting premier advancement system. In this system boys will learn through camping and non-camping activities. An emphasis is placed on learning at their own pace in a merit-based curriculum.
Discovery Rangers is a fun and exciting program for boys in third-, fourth-, and fifth-grade. Not only does the boy get to discover great indoor and outdoor activities, he will get to make many new friends. Being a Discovery Ranger is another step toward growing into a man of God in four ways:
| Physically:Their bodies will grow strong through proper exercise and diet. | |
| Spiritually: Their spirits will grow strong through prayer, Bible study and witnessing. | |
| Mentally: Their minds will grow strong by reading, studying, and memorizing Scripture passages. | |
| Socially: Their relationships with people will grow strong by learning how to treat them. |
If the boy has promoted from Ranger Kids into Discovery Rangers, he should have completed the necessary recruit requirements as one of his last tasks as a Ranger Kid. The boy's Discovery Rangers records or Handbook will contain the information verifying that he has completed the recruit requirements.
If the boy is joining Royal Rangers for the first time as a Discovery Ranger, he will need to complete the following recruit steps:
- Be in at least third grade
- Complete the Royal Ranger Charter form
- Complete the outpost medical information and parents' medical waiver
- Recite the pledge to the United States flag
- Recite the pledge to the Christian flag
- Recite the Royal Ranger Pledge
- Recite the meaning of the four red points of the Royal Ranger Emblem
- Recite the meaning of the four gold points of the Royal Ranger Emblem
- Recite the meaning of the eight blue points of the Royal Ranger Emblem

- With the boy's parents or guardian, complete the exercises in the pamphlet Preventing Child and Substance Abuse: A Parent's Guide. (Included with the Discovery Rangers Handbook.)
